At known, It all begins with the genetics

It all begins with the genetics, whether it is from seed or from clone, selecting the Michael Jordan of genetics is our first order of business in achieving a connoisseur level experience. Ensuring a diverse selection of strains from flavor profile to the experience the strains provide, we know as consumers ourselves the importance of genetic diversity. Diversity IS the spice of life, let us spice your flavor selection.

How We Hunt New Genetics

For us, the answer is simple: we chase flavor profiles we genuinely love. If we’re being honest, the Known team is full of candy fiends—it might be a “flaw,” but given how many in the market share that same sweet tooth, we think it’s more of an advantage.

From the start, we’ve built an extensive seed library worth well into six figures and have already hunted through over $50,000 in seeds alone. Along the way, we’ve faced more than our fair share of disappointments. One thing we’ve learned? A lot of geneticists are in it purely for the cash, and it shows. That leads to two outcomes:
A) Weak, unimpressive genetics, or
B) Seeds that simply refuse to germinate.

We’ve had entire $300–$500 packs fail to produce a single sprout—and even when they do pop, many don’t have the strength or uniqueness we’re looking for. But then there are the rare, special finds that make all the frustration worth it.

What We’re Searching For
First and foremost: the terp.
If the flavor isn’t incredible, nothing else matters. Our goal is that next-to-none, unforgettable organic rosin experience. This is one of the biggest factors that sets us apart. If the terp is insane and unique, we’ll run it—so long as it meets our viability threshold. Anything below 2% yield is tough to work with, but if it’s right at 2% and the flavor blows us away, it’s a go.

More Than Just Flavor
The terp is step one, but it’s not the only box to check. Next comes texture and stability. We avoid drier terps that tend to be lackluster in flavor and harsher on the dab, creating a burnt, unpleasant experience. Instead, we look for that greasy, wet consistency that rosin lovers know and crave—smooth, flavorful, and full-bodied from start to finish.

Hunting new genetics is a process full of heartbreaks, dead ends, and moments that test your patience. But when we finally find that “one”—that rare, stand-out strain—it’s like unlocking an entirely new world. And that’s exactly what keeps us searching.
